WHAT TO NOTICE
– A shape so distinctive that an Airstream can be recognized long before its name can be read
– A rounded, aerodynamic body designed to move smoothly along the highway.
– A reflective aluminum exterior assembled with rows of exposed rivets
– An almost irresistible tendency to cause passing humans to stop, stare and start a conversation.
HOW IT LIVES:
Airstreams are migratory by design. They can inhabit forests, deserts, beaches, campgrounds, driveways, and National Parks creating a connected home essentially anywhere.
They cache food, but are constantly searching for a place to camp, water and propane.
They play an important role in improving human exploration by providing 5-star comfort whereever they go.
THE INTERESTING PART
In 2016, Airstream collaborated with Pendleton Woolen Mills to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service. They made only 100 Pendleton Limited Edition Airstreams—one for each year of the National Park Service.
Lula Jean is number 16
WHERE I FOUND IT:
Lula Jean is our 2nd Airstream and we accidentally fell in love when we took our first Airstream in for service.
Her beautiful interior feels like a cabin in the mountains, with warm colors, woody accents and large windows that bring in the view. No matter where we are parked, we feel like we are in luxury accommodations.
She turns heads.
WORDS TO KNOW:
Boondocking – the act of parking a camping vehicle in the most undeveloped, yet coolest locations in the country.
Rivet – A permanent metal fastener used to join two pieces of material together. Airstream’s exposed riveting is particularly attractive and has become an icon of its design.
Wally Byam – The original designer of Airstream.
